With the different businesses shifting their data from self hosting to the Cloud providers' platforms, demand for the people with Cloud skills has been high in the Job market. According to a report, the global Cloud Computing market size is expected to grow from USD 371.4 billion in 2020 to USD 832.1 billion by 2025, at a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 17.5%
In one of our previous blog, we discussed about various Cloud technologies and their types. Although there a lot of providers in the market who provide Cloud hosting solutions for the companies, the main global competitors are -
- Amazon through their offering known as AWS (Amazon Web Services)
- Microsoft through their offering known as Azure.
- Google through their offering known as Google Cloud.
As per Canalys report as of July 2020, AWS gets about 31% of market share, Azure gets a share of 20% while Google Cloud is 6%. An interesting fact that has come up for Microsoft's Azure is, due to the Coronavirus pandemic that has shut down so many businesses has actually benefitted Azure which saw a staggering increase of 775% in Azure cloud usage!!! Despite such a sudden increase, Microsoft has been able to deliver their service without any major disruptions. This shows the potential of Azure to be a potential leader in the cloud market in the upcoming years.
Why Azure Certification needed?
Now, to match up with the demands of various companies to manage the hosting of their applications to Azure, they have been looking for employees with the right skillsets who can take care of the operations. For an individual to prove that, what can be a better way than to earn a certification and that's where Microsoft offers various certifications based on the skills an individual possess. With a Certification right from Microsoft, it becomes easier for an individual to prove his/her employer that they are the best fit for the Job. And the best part is, you don't need to even go to an exam center and fear of getting infected during these times as you can give the Certification exam just sitting at your home; just a compute with a working camera and a good internet connection is what required!
Tips to succeed in Azure Certification exam.
In order to prepare for the exam, here are few tips that one can follow to not only pass any of the Azure exams but to secure good marks as well.
- Identify which Certification will help you in your career path: There are a lot of Azure certification that Microsoft offers and not getting any Certification will help you except for the AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) exam which is common across any role. Some certifications focuses on Developers, while some are for the DevOps engineers, and similarly for other roles as well. Once you know which Certification will help you in the future, you can proceed with the advanced certification exams.
- Learn the Concepts properly: Often individuals see the certifications just to earn a certificate and does not focus on getting the concepts right. This actually does not help in the long run when you have to work on the actual projects in the Job. A good understanding of the Azure functionalities will actually help for the real cause. One of the source of information are the Microsoft docs available in their website. For AZ-900, I would recommend just going through them will be sufficient as the certification just tests your basic knowledge. On the other hand, for advanced certifications, an instructor paid training will help if you are not working on Azure currently and want to shift your career towards it. In this regard, Microsoft offers paid trainings for each of the certifications. Other good sites where once an also learn are Udemy, Pearson and Whizlabs.
- Get hands-on practice: It's also a very good practice to parallelly get a hands-on in the Azure portal along with getting the theoretical knowledge. This will be helpful in remembering the key concepts you are learning. And the best part is, Azure gives you a credit of $200 that you can use for almost all the services that it offers when you open a new account for a period of 12 months!
- Test your concepts: Once you are confident of the key concepts of the required certifications. Not only does it help you to identify your weak areas where you need to improve, but also this will help you to get an understanding of how the questions type will be when you take the actual certification exam which will not only test your concepts but also judge you how you use them to solve actual real world problems. To help with the practice tests, two of the sites which I found to be useful are Udemy and Whizlabs. They provide discounts round the year and their exam patterns matches that with the Microsoft's Azure certification exams.
